OGO proud to announce Sean O’Callaghan named to Chicago Lawyer Magazine’s Prestigious “40 Under 40” list

Sean O’Callaghan started his legal career as a misdemeanor trial assistant in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in the Fourth Municipal District’s Maybrook Courthouse. There, on average, he saw 200 to 300 cases on each morning and afternoon court call.

It’s a courthouse in which young attorneys can easily become flustered. But that never happened to O’Callaghan. Judge Paula Daleo of the Circuit Court of Cook County’s Fourth Municipal District said that hectic pace never rattled O’Callaghan.

Little did Sean O’Callaghan, Peter O’Mara and Richard Gleason know when they were sworn in as assistant state’s attorneys on the same day in 2005 that eight years later they would each tender resignations on the same day.

The three former prosecutors took a leap in 2013 and left the stability of the state’s attorney’s office to form their own civil litigation firm, an area in which they had little experience.

OGO convinces State of Illinois to retroactively dismiss all charges and free innocent man from prison

While O’Mara Gleason O’Callaghan does not normally engage in appellate or post-conviction criminal work, we occasionally take on matters of justice when there is a wrong that should be righted.

Colleagues familiar with our reputation and experience requested that we review the case of a Chicago man who claimed he was falsely charged and imprisoned. He was shot at 18 times by two Chicago police officers following a routine traffic stop, resulting in grievous injuries.

The man was charged with several gun offenses and sentenced to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after being advised by his trial attorney that he had no choice but to plead guilty.

Leveraging our years of experience in the State’s Attorney’s Office, we reviewed the police reports and interviews of the officers involved and uncovered major inconsistencies with the police version of the incident.

In May of 2015 we filed a post-conviction petition on behalf of our client. In response, the State’s Attorney’s Office retroactively dismissed all of the gun charges against him, and an innocent man was immediately freed from prison.

Richard Gleason was recently profiled in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. The CDLB took notice of Rich’s over 10 years of volunteer service to young people in underprivileged communities through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

Apart from his many years of service to the people of Cook County as an Assistant State’s Attorney, Rich has also dedicated much of his free time to being a mentor at the Logan Square Boys & Girls Club, where he still volunteers every Monday.

OGO obtains $500K judgment against serial financial predator

In October of 2014, O’Mara Gleason O’Callaghan obtained a $500,000 judgment against a serial financial predator after our client, a Chicago-area physician, was swindled out of $500,000.

The Ponzi scheme was run by a man who claimed to be selling securities in a Middle Eastern sovereign wealth fund, but who used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle that included exotic travel, high-end hotels, and luxury cars.

We sued the man on behalf of our client and obtained a $500,000 judgment against him.

We also provided key evidence to the Illinois Secretary of State Securities Department’s Enforcement Division and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office Special Prosecutions Bureau.

The serial financial predator was arrested in the fall of 2016 on charges related to the securities scheme and is now awaiting trial.

OGO investigates and identifies million-dollar embezzlement scheme by proprietary trading firm director

In March of 2014, O’Mara Gleason O’Callaghan investigated and identified embezzlement by a director of a proprietary trading firm and subsequently recovered $450,000 in stolen funds and real estate.

While our client initially suspected the director had stolen approximately $100,000 from the company, our investigation revealed the scope of the fraud to be much larger.

Within 24 hours of being retained, we conducted an on-site forensic investigation, obtained a signed confession from the embezzler, and located the stolen assets.

Within days we initiated a civil suit and obtained injunctive relief to freeze the assets of the former director and family members to whom he had transferred stolen funds.

He was subsequently arrested, charged with wire fraud, and sentenced to three years in prison.

OGO Announces New Offices
